Web Browsing On 3G Phones

Tuesday January 13, 2009

Web browsing on 3G phones has a few elements to it that people often tend to forget. In many tips for 3G phones, 3G Internet usage is regularly overlooked, or else things that seem obvious to experienced users are skipped over. It can be too easy to find yourself overusing your 3G Internet access, however, if you assume that it is like your home connection.

Many home Internet connections shape speeds after a data allowance has been used and many will not charge for uploaded data, just for downloaded data. 3G Internet plans for 3G phones almost universally charge both uploaded and downloaded data as well as charging excess usage fees rather than shaping your speed once you use your download quota. You should thus pay attention to how quickly you use data and consider upgrading to higher usage plans if you start paying more in excess usage per month than a higher usage plan would cost you.

You should also be careful about the kind of Internet access you are using. In areas where you do not have 3G access, you may still be able to access the Internet. This may not be included in your plan, however, and thus you could be charged for this as excess usage. Check to see how your service provider handles it and then do what you can to avoid these extra fees by sticking to using 3G access or open wireless Internet connections.
